ANSWERED LAST CALL
James B. Snyder Passed Out of Life Saturday.
James B. Snyder, a life-long and highly respected resident of this township, whose serious illness was mentioned in these columns last week, passed away at the family home in Sunnyside soon after noon Saturday from the effects of ureamic poisoning. Brief funeral services were held at the residence Tuesday forenoon, followed by more extended services in the Lutheran church, of which he had been a devoted member for the past eighteen years. Interment was in the Bremen cemetery beside his parents. The church was crowded, chairs being placed in the aisles to accomodate the friends who desired to pay a last tribute of respect to a good man.
James Buchanan Snyder, youngest son of Simon and Salome Snyder, was born on the same farm, seven miles southeast of Bremen, which he owned at the time of his death, on May 3, 1856, and resided upon it continuously until eight years ago when he and his wife moved to Bremen. Dec. 12, 1878, he was united in marriage with Ellen Bechtel. Five children were born to them, the eldest son, Frederick Austin Snyder, dying in infancy. Those surviving with the mother are Ollie Snyder of Indianapolis, Mrs. Albert Kiefer, Delbert Snyder and Mrs. Henry Breunlin of Bremen and vicinity. There are also living thirteen grandchildren, one sister - Mrs. Martin Stickle of Bremen, and two brothers - Martin Snyder of Pitts, Ark., and Benjamin Snyder of North Township, and many more distant relatives.
Perhaps no man in German township was better known than Mr. Snyder. For the past sixteen years he has been township assessor or deputy, and as one of the directors of the fair association, and part of the time its secretary, he came in contact with an unusually large number of people. Friends here from a distance Tuesday to attend the funeral included:
Mr. and Mrs. Benj. Snyder, Tilden Snyder and family, Nelson Sanner and family, Ralph Cline and family, Plymouth; Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Wale, Lapaz; Mrs. Caroline Snyder, Mr. and Mrs. George Snyder, Mr. and Mrs. Simon Snyder and daughter, Ellsworth Snyder and family, Mr. and Mrs. Russell, Mr. and Mrs. Berry, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Boede, Argos; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Bechtel, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Bechtel, Andrew Roose, Mr. and Mrs. Isaac Roose, Bourbon; Henry Heiermann and family, Mrs. Jacob Price, South Bend; Mr. and Mrs. Ira Sarber, Elkhart; Mr. and Mrs. Reigle, Bowling Green, O.; John Bechtel, White Pigeon, Mich.; Oliver Snyder and family, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schlosser, Indianapolis; Harry Heiermann, Lansing, Mich.; Mr. and Mrs. Jacob Hartman, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Roose, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Conrad, Nappanee.
