ALEXIS - Clarus R. "Coke" McCreight, 91, Alexis, died at 4:20 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8, 2012, at the Rosewood Care Center, Galesburg.
He was born Sept. 17, 1920, in Mercer County, the son of Fred and Edna (Riddell) McCreight. He was raised and educated in Mercer County.
Coke served with the United States Army Air Force during World War from 1942 to 1946 in the Pacific Operation.
Coke married Gwendolyn M. McKelvie on July 25, 1943, in Spokane, Wash. She passed away Dec. 9, 2011.
Coke farmed in Warren and Mercer Counties for over 50 years. He loved Big Band music and ballroom dancing. He was a member of the James Harvey Scott Alexis American Legion Post 189.
His family includes one son, Robert (Dixie) McCreight of Alexis; three granddaughters, Ann McCreight of Galesburg, and Amy (Jeff) Frieden and Sara (Scott) Strum, both of Brimfield; six great-grandchildren, Kayla Winkler, Cole Reiling, Kelsey Winkler, Callie Reiling, Grant Rea and Jenna Frieden; one brother, Larry (Claire) McCreight of Aledo; along with nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; sisters, Irene Waldo, Dorothy Clauson; brothers, Vern McCreight, Delmer McCreight and Robert McCreight.
Funeral will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 10, 2012 at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis. Burial with military jonors by the James Harvey Scott American Legion Post 189 will be in Alexis Cemetery. Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 9, 2012, at Hoover-Hall Memorial Chapel, Alexis, where his family will be present from 5-7 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Alexis Cemetery Association.
