DOUGLAS L. CORSON BUILT AND SOLD OUTDOOR FURNITURE
Douglas L. Corson, 78, of Rockland died Monday at Penobscot Bay Medical Center, Rockport.
He was born in Skowhegan, son of Lorenzo and Annie Wescott Corson. He attended Skowhegan schools and was a 1936 graduate of Skowhegan High School.
Mr. Corson worked a few years at the Boston Naval Shipyard until enlisting in the Army in 1942. He served with the 802nd Army Marine Ship Repair Company in New Guinea and the Philippine Islands. He was discharged in 1946 as a staff sergeant.
He had his own contracting business, Shoreline Builders in Salisbury, Mass. He was employed more than 18 years at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Kittery, retiring in 1972.
A 34-year resident of Salisbury, he served on the Salisbury Planning Board, was a member of the Methodist Church and was a Cub Scout leader.
He was a member of the Masons, Lions Club and Salisbury VFW Post.
In 1972, he moved here and did woodworking, building Adirondack chairs and picnic tables which he sold at his South Main Street home.
He attended Owls Head Baptist Church, and enjoyed cats and dogs.
His wife, Susie Edgecomb Corson, died in 1976.
Surviving are a son, Wayne A. of Kingston, N.H.; two daughters, Laura Jayne Corson and Andrea Sue Kennedy, both of Rockland; two brothers, Alcius of Skowhegan and Clifford Corson of Dexter; and four grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. May 9 in Achorn Cemetery. The Rev. Glenn C. Prescott III will officiate. Arrangements are by Burpee-Strong Funeral Home.
