LEXINGTON - Service for Curtis Hill Godwin will be Saturday, February 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Lexington Baptist Church with Dr. Mike Turner, Rev. Jerry Freeman and Rev. Dan Williams officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Park with full military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 6:30 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at Barr-Price Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Oliver Gospel Mission or Lexington Baptist Church Music Ministry. Pallbearers will be Harry Corley, Bobby Duval, Jason Burbage, Mike Burgess, Ted Adams and Frank Sox. Honorary pallbearers will be Sonny Godwin, James Godwin, Bubba Croft (nephews of Mr. Godwin) and all the Hardee breakfast friends and members of his Sunday School Class.
Born December 2, 1916, to Thomas and Sarah Godwin in Pelham, Georgia. Our Heavenly Father called him home on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at the age of 95.
He served in General Patton's 3rd army, 319th infantry. He is a recipient of the bronze star for his valor. He was a WW II and Korean War veteran. He retired from the S.C. Department of Transportation and retired from the S.C. Air National Guard at McIntyre Air Force Base. At the time of his death, he was the oldest retiree from McIntyre. He loved the military, but most of all he loved his Lord Jesus Christ.
He is survived by a son, John C. Godwin (Gail), and a daughter, Diane "Dee Dee" Whitehead (Bob), all of Lexington, brother, Bill Godwin, Hudson, FL, sister, Erline Young, Waycross GA, grandchildren, Cherie Corley, Candi Harrell, Christina Burbage, Christina Duval, Tabitha Boldt and Kimberly Godwin, and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Louise Godwin, and a great-grandson.
