Born December 2, 1916, to Thomas and Sarah Godwin in Pelham, Georgia. Our Heavenly Father called him home on Wednesday, February 8, 2012, at the age of 95.
He served in General Patton's 3rd army, 319th infantry. He is a recipient of the bronze star for his valor. He was a WW II and Korean War veteran. He retired from the S.C. Department of Transportation and retired from the S.C. Air National Guard at McIntyre Air Force Base. At the time of his death, he was the oldest retiree from McIntyre. He loved the military, but most of all he loved his Lord Jesus Christ.
He is survived by a son, John C. Godwin (Gail), and a daughter, Diane "Dee Dee" Whitehead (Bob), all of Lexington, brother, Bill Godwin, Hudson, FL, sister, Erline Young, Waycross GA, grandchildren, Cherie Corley, Candi Harrell, Christina Burbage, Christina Duval, Tabitha Boldt and Kimberly Godwin, and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife of 67 years, Louise Godwin, and a great-grandson.
A special thanks goes to Lexington Medical Center, 6th floor South, Lexington Extended Care, Camelia
Court, to Katie Willingham, his caregiver, for such special care in his last months of life, and to all his "special" breakfast friends at Hardees in Lexington whom he loved so very much. Online Register Barr-Price.com 803-356-4411
