Joliat was a native of Ottawa, Ontario, and played for teams in the OCHL, NOHA, NHL, USAHA, and the CSHL hockey leagues. He played for the Ottawa Grand Trunks from 1916 to 1917, Ottawa Aberdeens from 1917 to 1918, Ottawa New Edinburghs from 1918 to 1923, Iroquis Falls P-Makers from 1920 to 1921, Hull Volants from 1923 to 1924, Montreal Canadiens from 1924 to 1925, Boston Maples from 1924 to 1925, Royal Canadian Mint from 1926 to 1927, Post Office from 1929 to 1930, and the Ottawa Shamrocks from 1930 to 1931. Joliat was the older brother of hockey player, Aurel Joliat.
