P.O. Eugene S. "Gene" Tass, DSN 2258, was commissioned as a Police Officer on 07/18/1949. Upon graduating from the Saint Louis Police Academy on 10/10/1949, Officer Tass was sent to first assignment in the 12Th District. He went on to serve in the Traffic Safety Division, Mobile Reserve Section, and the Traffic Safety Division where he retired on 09/29/1980, with a total of 31.20 years of service. Officer Tass was awarded a Honorable Mention letter for outstanding police work on 09/01/1950.

Officer Tass was also a veteran of the United States Navy and achieved the rank of 2Nd Class Petty Officer during the WWII.

Fortified with the Sacraments of Holy Mother Church. Beloved husband of the late Olive Mae Dolly Tass; dear father of Dan (Gail) Tass, and the late Linda Tass; dear grandfather of Michelle (Dennis), David (Karen), Michael (Kristin) and Kristina (Josh); dear great grandfather of Caleb, Alexandria and Tyler; dear brother, brother-inlaw, uncle, cousin and friend.

Gene was a remarkable man, who had volunteered thousands of hours of his time to the Elks, Masons and Shriners. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WWII, with an honorable discharge at the end of his service.

He spent decades of his career maintaining peace with the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department and later with the Washington University Campus Police Dept.

He will be greatly missed by all of his family, friends and all of his extended families. Services: Prayer service 11 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 9 at HUTCHENS Mortuary, 675 Graham Rd., Florissant.

Interment Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation 4-9 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 at Hutchens Mortuary, with an Elks Memorial Service to be held at 7 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, family requests contributions to the Texas Elks Endowment Inc.
