DEATH OF C. M. DuMONT

Died at Eureka Springs, Arkansas, March 4th, 1887, of congestive chill, Charles M. DuMont, aged 33 years and 9 months.

The above announcement conveys the sad intelligence of the death of one of the most prominent young business men in this part of the state. Charlie DuMont, as he is known to our people, is the son of Mr. W. M. DuMont, and grew to manhood in this city. Soon after attaining his majority he went into the grocery business here with his brother, and did business for several years as a member of the firm of DuMont Brothers.

He was afterwards married to Miss Kate Hawkins, a niece of Mr. F. C. Hawkins. His health becoming poor he removed with his little family to California, and was in business in Los Angeles for two years, but the climate not benefitting him as he expected, he sold out and returned to Kansas, and soon afterwards opened up in business in Great Bend. About the 1st of last December his health became so poor he was compelled to quite business entirely, and about six weeks ago he removed to Eureka Springs, where he died as above stated.

The remains were brought here on the 12 o'clock train Sunday and conveyed to the residence of his parents, where private serves were held in the afternoon. At three o'clock the coffin was taken to the Presbyterian church. The funeral was preached by Rev. Shockley, the largest congregation that ever gathered in Larned being present. The remains were then borne to the grave and buried in Larned cemetery, the funeral cortege being over a mile long.

Charlie Dumont died in the flower of his manhood. He was highly respected by all who knew him, and the bereaved ones he leaves behing have the sympathy of the entire community.
