| Birth: | Dec. 15, 1919 | | Death: | Feb. 9, 1973 | Owner of the Sullivan County, New York farm where he let the 1969 Woodstock festival took place. At the end of the 3 day celebration Yasgur took the stage and made a moving speech to the thousands of spectators, becoming quite a revered figure among the hippies. He was not, however as popular with neighboring farmers, who had sued him for the damage in 1970 done to their property by festival goers. He sold the 600 acre farm in 1971 for about $1,000 per acre. Up until 1969 he was just another dairy farmer, but local restrictions had forced the removal of the festival from Woodstock and Mr. Yasgur rented his spread in Bethel, about 55 miles away to the promoters for a fee he never exactly revealed.
