Oldest child of Caspar & Anna Barbara Schunck of Mutterstadt, Pfalz, Germany who migrated to America in 1717. Caspar was a wagon builder who moved his family to the area near Old Goshenhoppen Church in present-day Montgomery County, Pennsylvania.

Francis was born sometime between 1707-1713, probably in or near Mutterstadt, Rheinland-Pfalz. His siblings were Christian b.Sep 16, 1714 & Elisabetha b.June 29, 1717, both in Mutterstadt.

Francis married Elisabetha Reimer sometime between 1735 & June 1736 in Montgomery County, possibly by Rev. John Casper Stoever.

Francis, by his son John Shunk and his wife Elisabeth Rawn, is the grandfather of the 10th Pennsylvania Governor Francis Rawn Shunk 1788-1848.
