CARBONDALE -- James Hugh Shelnutt, 77, passed away at 8:35 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 2, 2012, in Landmark Hospital in Cape Girardeau.
He was born June 24, 1934, in La Grange, Ga., to Curtis Shelnutt and Odell (Campbell) Shelnutt.
He owned Shelnutt and Associates Certified Public Accountants in Carbondale.
He was a U.S. Army veteran.
Survivors include special friend, Lisa (Aaron) Hall and son, Levi, of Buncombe; sons, James (Jeannie) Shelnutt and Lee Shelnutt; one brother, Laimon (Bobbie) Shelnutt; one sister-in-law, Faye Shelnutt; and many nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to Hugh's caregivers for the excellent job they did.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis L. Shelnutt and Odell (Campbell) Shelnutt; one son, Courtney Lee Shelnutt; and two brothers, Julius Shelnutt and Robert Shelnutt.
He was a member of Carbondale Elks, Masonic Lodge and Shriners.
Walker Funeral Home and Crematory of Carbondale is in charge of arrangements.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, in Walker Funeral Home of Carbondale with Minister Doug Bridgemann officiating. Burial will be in Ebenezer Cemetery in Lick Creek. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 5, at the funeral home at 112 S. Poplar St., in Carbondale.
