Manley H. Furtney, 85 year-old Yuma building contractor, died yesterday at the Yuma County Nursing Home, it was announced at the Johnson Mortuary.
Funeral services were scheduled to be held at 3 p.m. today in the Johnson Chapel, with the Yuma Elks Lodge, No. 476 ritualistic team in charge. Private cremation will follow at the Desert Lawn Memorial Park Crematory.
He was born in Austin, Minn., Sept. 6, 1877. He came to Yuma 30 years ago and worked for years with the U.S. Bureau of Reclamation. In 1939 he was superintendent of the local Civilian Conservation Corps camp. He worked for the Yuma County Water Users Association for four years until his retirement three years ago.
He resided at 2nd Avenue and Canal Street.
Surviving are his wife Goldie; three sisters, Charlotte Williamson, Vera Parker, and Ada Davis, all of Burlingame, Calif.
He was a life member of the Rochester, Minn. Elks Lodge No. 1091.
