Dina arrived in America with her family on the ship Hermitage on October 8, 1846, landing at Baltimore. They settled in Richmond Indiana and on September 11, 1855 she married Henrick(Henry) Horstmann. They had one daughter, Anna, who was born in 1858. Henry served with the 86th Indiana during the Civil War and was captured at the Battle of Stones River. He spent time in Richmond Virginia's famous Libby prison before being paroled at City Point, Virginia. He returned to his regiment and was mustered out on June 12, 1865 but never returned home and was never heard from again.

Dina's grave was unmarked until June 2023.
