Elizabeth Shepherd.
Born: 1694 in Dungannon, Tyrone, Ireland.
Died: 1760 at Appomattox, Appomattox, Virginia.

Father: Solomon Shepherd.
Mother: Isabell Wilkeson.

Spouse: John McReynolds.
Married: 18 Jun 1714 at Charlemont, Armagh, Ireland.

She is buried on her son's farm on Falling River, near Spout Springs in Appomattox County, VA.∼Elizabeth Shepard was a Quaker and married Ole John McReynolds in Ireland. She gave him four children (Elizabeth, Joseph, Robert & James) but the marriage was not a success (some sources doubt this) and she emigrated to the United States with those four children. Elizabeth was the daughter of Solomon Shepard (Again some sources state that her father was another Shepard). One of many Solomon Shepards. All no doubt related.
She lived on the land of her son James and died there in 1760 and was buried with no
marker in a stone walled enclosure for the cemetery that James had built. The land was near Falling River in what is now Appomattox county, but was then Campbell County.
Her birthdate is in contention as well as her death date. Findagrave.com has her buried in Appomattox Cemetery, but that didn't exist at the time of her death (1760). Her grandson mentions her death on the land near Falling River. As mentioned on the plaque in the McReynolds Family Cemetery, the McReynolds house was some 200 yards from the family Cemetery. This fact helps in locating her unmarked grave.

McReynolds Family Cemetery-0.6 miles south of the Route 647 bridge over Mountain Run and Falling River and about 0.6 miles northeast of the Route 648 intersection with Route 679. It lies about 450 yards west of Falling River and 200 yards SE of an old stone foundation of a home built in 1762 where a branch enters Falling River from this location.
The cemetery is currently in Appomattox county.
The cemetery has been enclosed by a stone wall.
The grave marker consists of a base of fieldstones rising approximately 3 feet high. Mounted into this base is a bronze plaque 12 x 20 inches. In addition to the marker there are three marked stones.
Elizabeth was my lineal ancestor (8th grandmother)and I have visited the cemetery with the marker put there by the Supreme Court Justice named McReynolds who was her descendant as well. My maiden name was McReynolds.
This family cemetery is reported in the Revolutionary War Veteran Gravesites in Virginia : Report of the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission to the Governor and the General Assembly of Virginia about Virginia Revolutionary War veterans and their burial places, printed in the year 2000 as well as in the book by William Howard McReynolds, MCREYNOLDS A NOBLE CLAN, 1980.
