NORTH MANCHESTER - Egon W. Borgmann, 72, of North Manchester, died at 6 a.m. March 13, 2009, in his residence.
He was born March 16, 1936, in Stettin, Germany, to Walter and Magarete Kamradt Borgmann. On June 25, 1960, he married Sandra Over, who died March 3, 2008.
He resettled with his family in Uelzen, Germany, in 1945, as a war refugee. He came to the United States as an exchange student in 1953, where he stayed with the family of Carl and Doreen Myers in Roaring Spring, Pa. After returning to Germany and serving an apprenticeship in import/export, he immigrated to the United States. He graduated from Temple University and received a master's degree from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania. He worked for the Dupont Co., Wilmington, Del., before starting his own business in international marketing and teaching in the business program at Ursinus College. Most recently he worked as the finance director of the Red Cross of the Delmarva Peninsula. After retirement, he moved to North Manchester, where he was a member of Manchester Church of the Brethren.
Surviving are two sons, R. Kurt (and spouse Loyce) Borgmann, North Manchester, and Kevin (and spouse Haise) Borgmann, Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Karin (and spouse John) Borgmann-Winter, Conshohocke, Pa.; seven grandchildren; and a sister, Inge Whelpdale, Darlington, England.
Services will be at 2 p.m. April 11 at Manchester Church of the Brethren, North Manchester, with Pastors Karen Eberly and Jim Chinworth officiating. Burial of ashes will be in Memorial Garden at Manchester Church of the Brethren.
Calling will follow the service at the church.
