HOOD, J.D. - age 85 of South Knoxville passed away Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at home surrounded by family and friends. J.D. was co-founder, trustee, and deacon of Security Door Baptist Church. He was also co-founder and former member of Unity Independent Baptist Church and was active in the formative years of both Bays Mountain Baptist and Love Chapel Baptist Churches. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Army Air Forces. J.D. was a familiar face around area flea markets where he carried out his ministry of giving out New Testaments to those who passed by. He loved the Lord, God's Word, and gospel music, having traveled to area churches singing and playing gospel music for many years. J.D. was preceded in death by his parents, Rev. Floyd and Lucy (Randles) Hood; brothers, Lester and David Hood; sisters, Ersie Hood and Elizabeth Lynch. Survivors: wife of 51 years: Rose Elma (Hixon) Hood; son and daughter-in-law: Randy and Cindy Hood; grandchildren: Kanan and Ryan Hood, Randy and Ryan Holton; brothers and sisters-in-law: Uluse and Ruth Hood, Robert and Johnnie Hood; sister-in-law: Velma Hood; brother-in-law: Daniel Lynch; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Gladys and Harold Joe Chapman. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service 7:00 PM Thursday in Atchley's Seymour Chapel with Pastor Danny Cummings and Rev. George Winters officiating. Interment 2:00 PM Friday in Highland South Cemetery with Brother Carl McGill and Brother Charles Cline officiating
