Anabella McKenzie, b. in Inverness-shire, Scotland, d. abt. 1850 at Brackley Point, Lot 33, P.E.I.

Donald John McLure (1795-1873) The son of Angus McLure and Annabella MacKenzie. He was born at Lot 33, Brackley Point, PEI. He was baptized on 18 Jun 1796, at Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island.

Donald McLure and Mary McKenzie were married by the Rev. John Geddie at Lot 33, Brackley Point, PEI Canada on April 09, 1839. It was at that point, that he added Donald to his name. Donald John McLure spent some of his youthful years sailing to and from China.

They immigrated with other families to US from Canada about 1847 to Iowa County and to Dane County, Wisconsin. Originally named just John, he renamed himself Donald. He 'fell out' with his family as he felt that they were overly strict with him. As a young man in PEI he worked on the ships. The family say that he renamed himself Donald John McLure and may have spent some years sailing to and from China. When looking through records, it is important to know that in the 19th century, the name Daniel was often a written and spoken alternative to the name Donald.

The McLures had many children, several of them sadly died before adulthood. The children born before 1850 were born in Prince Edward Island, Canada. The others were born in Wisconsin.

Donald John McLure (b. c.1795-1873) His death was October 8, 1873. The McLure and the MacKenzie families lived near one another in Iowa and Dane counties, Wisconsin,

Donald may have been attracted to the Blue Mounds area as he was a miner. He was from a family that were farmers and shipbuilders. He had spent years as a shipowner and merchant. He was choose to have worked as a farmer and primarily a miner. The Blue Mound mines were famous lead mines. Recorded in the 1850 and 1860 censuses is the fact that Donald and Mary lived in Blue Mounds, Dane co, Wisconsin. When they moved to Black Earth, they were neighbors of Mary MacKenzie McLure's parents, Benjamin MacKenzie and Isabelle McLeod.

The 1870 census has them living in Ridgeway, Iowa co., near their cousins the Helmenstines. Donald's occupation then was Farmer. Donald died October of 1873 in Ridgeway, Iowa co. Wisconsin.

In the census of 1880, his wife Mary is listed as a widow living with her son Chester A. McLure, age 19, in Ridgeway, Iowa co., Wisconsin. Instead of being 'at Home' she is listed as a widow and a Farmer.

The census of 1900 shows Mary McLure living in Papillion, Sarpy, Nebraska, with her widowed daughter Christy A. McLure Fisher. Mary is aged 81, and Christy is 59. Both women are listed as Widowed.

Christy Ann died in Chicago, probably while visiting Mary's sister (and Christy's Aunt) Margaret MacKenzie Ward. Both Mary and Christy are buried in Nebraska along with Christy's husband and children.
