Austin A. Long, 68, 4200 E. 13th St.,
died at 4:10 a.m. Wednesday at St.
John's Regional Medical Center where
he had been a patient since Monday.
Mr. Long was born Aug. 18, 1915, in Joplin and was a lifetime resident here. He was a retired electrical contractor, having owned the Industrial Electrical Company from 1948 to 1979,
at which time he sold it to a family member. For the past seven years he owned the Chandelier Shop at 2211 E. Seventh St. He was a member of Wildwood Baptist Church and International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers of America, Local No. 95. He
served in the U.S. Air Corps during World War II.
He married Vivian R. Day on Feb. 13, 1935, in Joplin. She survives.
Also surviving are four daughters, Shirley Brown, 741 Highland Ave., Linda Cartright, 2132 Carolina Ave., Judy Zengel, 1418 New Hampshire Ave., and Ruth Long, 4019 E. 14th Place; four brothers, Earl Long, Joplin route 4, Richard Long, 1710 Indiana Ave., Morris Long, 1220 Moffet Ave., and Harry Long, Anderson; three sisters, Marcella Oxford, 1709 Missouri Ave., Eunice Long, Hampton, Va., and Myrna Boles, Phoenix, Ariz.; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at Fellowship Baptist Church. The Rev. J. Nick Arnold and the Rev. Bob McKenzie will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Randy Brown, Stacey Zengel, Gary Cartright, Jim Long, Howard Brown and Ed Zengel.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at Parker Mortuary.
Memorial contributions may be made to Wildwood Baptist Church building fund, East 20th Street Road.
