Gary Allen Huftel (60) of Minong, WI, formerly of Rock Falls died Friday, August 2, 2013 at his home. He was born August 25, 1952 in Eau Claire, WI; son of Marshall and Elizabeth (Moser) Huftel. He graduated from Durand High School in 1970. Following graduation he attended Chippewa Valley Technical College in Eau Claire, where he studied courses in hospitality. Gary worked in home construction and remodeling. He was part owner of the Grate Shoppe with his brother Terry for several years. Together they sold and installed fireplaces. He then worked at Hobbs Plumbing and Heating Supply and Ferguson Plumbing and Heating Supply in Eau Claire, WI. For about 7 years, he and his brother

Terry, owned and operated Huftel's Hillside Horticulture. Gary then worked at First Supply LLC. In 2010, he purchased the Wild River Trail Inn in Minong, WI, which he was still operating at the time of his death. He was the founding member of the Minong Chamber of Commerce and served as the first President. Gary enjoyed snowmobiling, skiing and traveling to the mountains in Montana. He loved visiting with and cooking for large groups of people.

He is survived by his brothers, Redgie (Patricia) Huftel of Ottawa, IL,Terry (Susan) Huftel of Rock Falls, WI; niece and nephews, Rick Huftel, Tamara Huftel, Nicholas Huftel; great-nephews, Dalton Huftel and Noah Donahue, and his beloved dog, Toby. He is preceded in death by his parents, Marshall and Elizabeth (Moser) Huftel.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Goodrich Funeral Home in Durand with Pastor Dan Whitehead officiating. Burial will be in the Peru Cemetery in rural Rock Falls, WI. Pall bearers are Chuck Harschlip, Dalton Huftel, Nick Huftel, Rick Huftel, Rob Ostrom and Dennis Stuart. Friends may call one hour prior to services at the funeral home on Wednesday.
