Vaurien Saak
Ruth Vaurien Saak, 87 of Wellsville, died at 6:05 p.m. Saturday, June 13, 2009 at New Florence Nursing and Care Center, New Florence.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at Wellsville Cemetery with the Rev. John Ray officiating.
Mrs. Saak was born March 17, 1922 in New Florence, the daughter of Luther Dennis Ellis and Beulah Ella Bryant Ellis.
On Jan. 7, 1939 at Hermann, she married Walter John Saak.
Mrs. Saak attended school in New Florence and Montgomery City and was a graduate of the American Secondary School. She was employed at Hill's Jewelry in Wellsville for 16 years. She became co-owner of Argent, Inc. Jewelry and retired in 1983. She had lived in Wellsville since 1951 and was a former member of Friends of the Library and had served on the Wellsville Public Library Board, Wellsville Chamber of Commerce, L'Etude Club, Wellsville VFW Auxiliary. Historical Society of Montgomery City, was a charter member of the Gamma Road Lodge, the Gamma Road Advisory Board, and the volunteer auxiliary of the Gamma Road Lodge.
The Saaks spent their early retirement years traveling, visiting all 48 contiguous United States. Vaurien enjoyed collecting music boxes, Lady Planter Heads and dragon fly pins, among other collectibles. She was a member of the United Methodist Presbyterian Church in Wellsville and had served on the Methodist Church Board and was a former president of the Methodist Guild.
Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Patricia Ann and George Barley, Phoenix, Ariz.; grandchildren, Stacey Lansche and Bryan Barley, both of Phoenix, Ariz.; great-grandchildren, Jordan Michael Lansche and Abigail Jaylin Fawcett, of Phoenix, Ariz.; sisters and brother and spouses, Hazel Minerva Dyke, High Hill, Leslie Stuart Ellis, Abilene, Texas, Alpha Cornelia Davey, Wellsville, Zelma Roberta and Robert McKenzie, Dallas, Texas, and Lora Dene and Tom Riddle, Montgomery City.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter John Saak; brothers, Harold Stanley Ellis and Warren Harding Ellis; and sister, Evelyn Iola Carlock.
