George Green
Birth: Jul. 16, 1840
Death: Feb. 10, 1898

Civil War Congressional Medal of Honor Recipient. He enlisted in the Union Army on April 26, 1861, and was mustered in as a Private in Company H, 11th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Promoted to Corporal on September 1, 1862, he would be awarded the CMOH for his heroism at the Battle of Missionary Ridge, Tennessee on November 25, 1863. His citation reads "Scaled the enemy's works and in a hand-to-hand fight helped capture the flag of the 18th Alabama Infantry (C.S.A.)." He served a full three years in the field, and was honorably mustered out upon the expiration of his term of enlistment on June 11, 1864. His Medal was awarded to him on January 12, 1892, twenty nine years later. (bio by: Don Morfe)
