Mrs. John Ryan Dies Last Week
Funeral Held Monday at Congregational Church Here
Mrs. John Ryan, who has long been a well known resident of this city, died Friday at a Green Bay hospital from heart trouble from which she had been ailing for two years. Although not having been in the best of health, she was taken seriously ill only a few days before her death.
Mrs. Ryan, whose maiden name was Amelia Battershill, was born April 2, 1860 at Green Bay, a daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Edward Battershill, but she spent most of her life in this city. She was active for many years as a member of the W.C.T.U. and belonged to the Congregational Church.
She was married here to Patrick Ryan, who died 24 years ago and later married his brother John. The latter died about nine years ago. Part of her first marriage was spent at Appleton while the husband was employed as an engineer for a sawmill at Hiles, Wisconsin. The past year Mrs. Ryan spent living with her daughter at Green Bay.
Surviving are the following children: Mrs. L.L. (Winifred) Austin, Green Bay, Mrs. John (Mazie) Satler, Milwaukee, Mrs. Howard (Marion) Packard, Janesville, Thomas and Alan, Maywood, Illinois and Mrs. T.A.(Clara) Egan. Also surviving are 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Special services were held at a Green Bay funeral chapel Sunday evening, conducted by the Rev. Frankson, Mrs. Ryan's pastor in that city. Monday morning the body was brought to the Hahn Funeral Home here where it lay in state until time for the funeral conducted that afternoon by the Rev. G.R. Yoakum at the Congregational Church. Burial was at Bayside. A large floral offering accompanied the body to this city, and many flowers were added here.
Special music for the service was provided by a quartet consisting of John Rysdorf, a close friend of Patrick Ryan in the early sawmill days, Mrs. W.E. Wagener and Mr. and Mrs. Louis Nebel. Mrs. Wagener also sang a solo. Pallbearers were six grandchildren, William and Alan Satler, David and Donald Austin, William Egan and Howard Packard.
Among those here from outside were Mr. and Mrs. Archie Garland, Iron Mountain, Michigan, Mr. and Mrs. Ross Wright and Mrs. Anna Wright, Cana Island, Mrs. L.L. Austin and sons David and Donald and daughter Patricia, Mr. and Mrs. John Satler and William, Alan and Marion Satler, Milwaukee, Mr. and Mrs. Howard Packard and sons Howard and Patsy, of Janesville and Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Ryan and Alan Ryan of Maywood, Illinois. Besides these, there were a large number of friends of family from Green Bay.
