NORMAN LEROY METZGER, 73, of Mount Vernon, Illinois, passed away at his home at 10:50 A.M. on Friday, January 27, 2012.

He was born on Monday, September 19, 1938 in Mount Vernon, Illinois, a son to the late Glenn L. & Thelma (Byford) Metzger. He married Sharon Malone on May 19, 1962 in Mount Vernon, Illinois and she survives in Mount Vernon along with their Son Mark Metzger and wife Connie of Fairfield, Illinois, their Daughter: Stacy Martinez and husband Greg of Mount Vernon, Illinois; four Grandchildren: Trey Martinez and Justin Martinez of Mount Vernon, Illinois, Ryan Johnson and wife Lisa of Glen Carbon, Illinois and Whitney Johnson of Evansville, Indiana; Brother: Morris Metzger of Hoyleton, Illinois; Sister: Lois Rodotz and husband Bill of Woodlawn, Illinois; Sister-In-Law: Mary Metzger Harris of Lebanon, Illinois; six Nephews: Eric, John, Paul and Jason Rodotz and Mike and Dan Metzger.

His parents, one brother: Don Metzger, a special aunt: Valeta Weir and his father-in-law and mother-in-law: Clyde & Doris Malone preceded him in death.

Norman served in the U.S. Navy from 1957 to 1961 aboard the U.S.S. Leary (DDR-879) and later was a truck driver until retiring. He was a loving father and grandfather and a member of Central Christian Church in Mount Vernon.

VISITATION: will be from 5 to 8:00 P.M. Monday, January 30, 2012 at Hughey Funeral Home in Mount Vernon, Illinois. FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 1:30 P.M. Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at in the Chapel at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois, with Mr. Jamie Allen officiating. INTERMENT will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. The Chaplain of Mount Vernon American Legion Post #141 will conduct a Flag Presentation Service at the cemetery. MEMORIALS may be given to the Central Christian Church Building Fund and will be accepted at the funeral home or mailed to Hughey Funeral Home, P.O. Box 721, Mount Vernon, Illinois 62864.
