When he was 20, he married Mary Catherine Paden, daughter of Alexander Paden and Anna Maria Remsburg, on April 18th, 1850 in Sandusky County, Ohio. They continued to reside in Sandusky County and on July 7th, 1853 their first child, George Franklin Black was born. That Fall, George and his small family moved to Porter, Cass, Michigan and on August 30th, 1856, Mary Catherine gave birth to their second son, George William Foster Black.
In 1865, at the age of 35, George moved his family to Bureau County, Illinois, where he continued to live until his death at age 58 on April 23rd, 1888. He was buried in the Walnut Cemetery in Walnut, Bureau County, Illinois.
