Reuben's parents have not been found but he is first found in Richmond County, Virginia, where he was married to his first wife Mary by 1791. She bore him 2 children and then died between 1793 and 1800, when he married Elizabeth Estes in Bedford County, Virginia, who bore him five daughters. His 1800 Personal Tax List says he owned 11 slaves and 5 horses. About 1815, he moved his family to Sixteen Mile Creek, a couple of miles south of Southside in Mason County, Virginia, where his Tax List says he had 1 slave and 2 horses. He was 84 and still in Mason County in the 1850 census, but probably died there before his daughter Martha moved to Madison County, Indiana with her husband John Kaufman Jr. in 1853. Reuben may then have been buried in the Harmony Cemetery at Southside.
