Guy Roberts went home to be with the Lord the afternoon of March 9, 2011. He had been a resident in the assisted living quarters of Delaware Court Health Care Center for the past year. He was born March 25, 1916 on the family farm near Radnor, Ohio, to Suzanna and Emery Roberts and would have been 95 years old in two weeks. Guy graduated from Radnor High School in 1934 and subsequently had 2 farms in the Prospect and Radnor area. He loved working outside on the farms and was also a school bus driver, retiring with 35 years of service from the Radnor and later the Buckeye Valley School systems. For a few years toward the end of World War II Guy left the farm to work as a fireman on C&O's H8 Allegheny steam locomotive, one of the largest and most powerful locomotives in the World, running between Columbus and Toledo. With his love for the outdoors and farm life, he married Elizabeth "Betty" Warren in 1942. They raised 3 sons on the family farm and instilled in them their love for Christ. Guy was a member of the Radnor Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving as a Deacon and in various other capacities with the church. In more recent years, he affiliated with the Central Community Baptist Church of Waldo, where many of his friends attended. He was also very active with the Radnor Grange where he served and held many offices. Guy was a patient man who loved his Lord and community and took care of his family. He led by actions more than words. He enjoyed excellent health until recent months, and insisted on attending church and did so on a regular basis. Guy loved old tractors, farm equipment and collected several cars. He also enjoyed watching Christian television programming, listening to Lawrence Welk-type music and sporting events, mainly baseball and basketball. For years Guy and his late brother Edgar would set records for giving blood in amounts exceeding many gallons. This selflessness resulted in special articles about them in the Delaware Gazette. He is survived by his sons Phillip Paul (Sharon) of Prospect and David Lee (Karen) of Dimondale, MI; grandchildren Stephanie, Becky (Rob Hossler) and Scott (Brandy Winters), all of Central Ohio; great-grandchildren Hayden and Gavin; and sister Helen Collins of Prospect. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2005 and his middle son, James W. and his brother Edgar. The family will receive friends on Sunday, March 13th from 3:00 – 6:00 PM at the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, 1510 W. William St., Delaware, where funeral services will be held Monday at 10:30 AM with Pastor Alvin Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Radnor Cemetery. The family will then return to the Rodman Neeper Community Room for a reception and additional fellowship. Contributions in Guy's memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 10501 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106 or to the Central Ohio Parkinson Society, 2800 Corporate Exchange Drive, Ste. 265, Columbus, OH 43231-8610.
