Mrs. Dorothy Thrift James, 84, died Sunday night (June 9, 2013) at Baptist Village Retirement Communities after an extended illness.

She is a native and lifelong resident of Ware County. She retired from Swisher Cigar Factory as a machine operator and was affiliated with the Baptist faith.

She is the daughter of the late Dudley "Dud" Thrift and Florence Steedley Thrift. She is preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Morris James; a granddaughter, Julie Mattox; and a great grandson, Matthew Mattox.

Survivors include two sons, Ronnie Thrift (wife Lydia) of Waycross, and Tony James (wife Angel) of Waycross; one brother, Rufe Thrift of Waycross; three grandchildren, Shanell James, Tad James (wife Lori) and Christopher Thrift (wife Miranda); and five great grandchildren, Brycne James, Allison James, Tracie Mattox, Celeste Rodriguez and Peyton Rodriguez; several nieces and nephews; and a lifelong friend, Evelyn Griffin of Waycross.

A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday (June 14, 2013) at Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 8 p.m. Thursday at Music Funeral Home.

Music Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
