Services for James Ervin Harvey, 82, of Greenwood, who died of cancer Thursday, May 11, 2006, at Forrest General Hospital in Hattiesburg, will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Wilson & Knight Funeral Home.
Mr. Harvey was born in Miley, S.C.. He grew up in Hampton, S.C.. Mr. Harvey was a World War II veteran and served in the South Pacific.
After the war, he returned to Greenwood where he worked as an automotive mechanic at Delta Chevrolet. He then taught Vo-Tech at Greenwood High School for 21 years until his retirement.
He was a member of First Christian Church, the American Legion , Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Odd Fellows Lodge. Mr. Harvey was a Shriner.
Mr. Harvey is preceded in death by his wife, Janie Howard Harvey.
He is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Mary Jane and Henry Barmettler of Hattiesburg; four sisters, Dorothy Mitchum of Hampton, S.C., Lowell Kloczkowski of Estill, S.C., Muriel Jacobson of Hampton, S.C. and Theresa Shell of Walterboro, S.C.; two grandsons, Heath Barmettler of Vicksburg and Sean and Nicole Barmettler of Huntsville, Ala.; two granddaughters and their spouses, Ashley and Vaughn Jones of Laurel and Heather and Chris Kircher of Philadelphia, Pa.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
The Rev. Sam Laine will officiate over services.
Pallbearers will be Walter Beam, Kenny Barry, Wayne Steed, Adair Colvin, Coley Sanders and Ottis Bruce.
Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
