William Harold "Snag" Hayes age 83 of Louisville died Thursday, September 6, 2001 at Fort Sanders Regional Medical Center. He was a member of Beech Grove Baptist Church; was employed by ALCOA with 44 years of service and a member the ALCOA 25- Year Club; member of the Blount County Election Commission since 1987 serving as chairman since 1995; former Blount County commissioner for 22 years; a veteran of the United States Marine Corp, serving during World War II in the South Pacific; former Vice-President of Steelworkers Local 309. Preceded in death by: Wife, Elizabeth McClurg Hayes; Infant Son, William Ray Hayes; Parents, Henry & Mattie Hayes; Sisters, Pauline Green, Azalea Hayes, Imojean Hancock; Brother, Roy Hayes. Survivors include: Sons, Johnny and wife Mary Howard Hayes of Sideview, and Steve Hayes of Alcoa; Daughter and Son-in-law, Libby & Pat Breeding of Louisville; Grandchildren, Craig & wife Martha Hayes, Amy Hayes, Zach & wife Mandy Breeding, Matt Breeding, Kate & husband Lee Mouser; Great-Grandchildren, Austin & Ashley Hayes; Special nephew, Junior Harveston; several nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be at 6:00 PM, Saturday, September 8, 2001 in the Trinity Chapel of Smith Mortuary with Rev. Kenny Armstrong and Rev. Ike Linginfelter officiating. Friends will assemble at 2:00 PM, Sunday, September 9, 2001 at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for the interment.
