John B. Lane, a retired U.S. Army National Guard sergeant first class and a veteran of World War II, died at 3:40 a.m. Sunday, Feb. 27, 2000, at his residence in Denham Springs. He was 74 and a native of D'Lo, Miss.
Visiting was at Seale Funeral Home, Denham Springs, 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday. Visiting at the funeral home chapel from 9 a.m. until religious services at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, conducted by the Rev. Paul Taylor and the Rev. Charles McCants. Interment in Evergreen Memorial Park, Denham Springs.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Schilling Lane, Denham Springs; three daughters and sons-in-law, Sylvia and Leon DeMent, Wanda and Michael Genusa and DeLynn and Don Schmitt; and a son and daughter-in-law, John R. and Karen Lane, all of Baton Rouge and Denham Springs; a brother, Evon Lane, Magee, Miss.; and 10 grandchildren, Karen DeMent Youmans, Darren DeMent, Christy and Cara Genusa, J.T., Deanne and Kirk Lane and Dana, Donny and Diana Schmitt.
He was preceded in death by his parents, the Rev. John H. and Mary Lane; and a sister, Esther Hughes.
Pallbearers will be Leon DeMent, Darren DeMent, Don Schmitt, Donny Schmitt, J.T. Lane, Kirk Lane, Michael Genusa and Tim Youmans. Honorary pallbearers are deacons of Emmanuel Baptist Church.
He was a member and deacon of Emmanuel Baptist Church, Denham Springs, and member of the American Legion.
Memorial donations may be made to Mary Bird Perkins Cancer Center or Hospice of Baton Rouge, 9063 Siegen Lane, Suite A, Baton Rouge LA 70810.
