Actor. Born to a clothing designer and homemaker, his school studies often took a back seat to his interest in viewing movies. He enrolled at Manhattan's American Academy of Dramatic Arts and later was mentored by Lee Strasberg, financing his training working as a waiter. He was met with instant success, distinguishing himself as recipient of a Theatre World Award for his Broadway debut playing Pedro in "Night of the Iguana" (1961 to 1962). His introduction to TV audiences was with an episode of the program "Naked City" (1962), which marked the beginning of an extensive body of work. He had featured roles in "The Bold Ones: The Lawyers" (1969 to 1972, as Neil Darrell), "Dynasty" (1981 to 1982, as Dr. Nick Toscanni) and "Blue Thunder" (1984, as Frank Chaney). He earned a Golden Globe Award for Most Promising Newcomber with the film "The Pad and How to Use It" (1967) and received an Emmy Award nomination for "Jesus of Nazareth" (1977). Off-screen, Farentino was known for his turbulent temper and marriages. He was formerly united with actresses Elizabeth Ashley, Michele Lee and Debrah Farentino.
