This was an older sister to my grandmother, that died before my grandmother was born. I know in my family this child's name was pronounced "Bern-iss" not like the more typical pronunciation of Ber-niece. She was 2 years old when she died. The family had a large oval portrait of her that hung in their home all thru my grandmother's childhood. No one seems to know what happened to that portrait but my grandmother remembered the photo of Bernice as a very cute blond little girl. She was much loved and missed by her family.
