Major League Baseball Player. The shortstop broke in with the Altoona Unions of the Union Association in 1884. When the club folded after a 6-19 record, he played for the Cleveland Blues in the National League. He then went to the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers of the American Association from 1885 to 1888, the Brooklyn Bridegrooms of the NL in 1889 and 1890 and the Cincinnati Reds from 1891 to 1896. In 1894 he batted .263 with career highs of 33 doubles and 76 runs batted in. The following year he hit a career-high .300 with 23 doubles and 74 RBIs. He played again for the Bridegrooms in 1897 and then the St. Louis Browns in 1898. The 6-foot, 175-pound right-handed batter hit .243 lifetime with 252 doubles, 94 triples, 45 homers, 618 RBIs, 907 runs scored and 213 stolen bases. (bio by: Ron Coons)
