British monarch, Queen consort of King Charles II. The daughter of John IV of Portugal and Luisa de Guzman. She married Charles in May of 1662. She was not a popular queen, being Roman Catholic, and her faith prevented her from being crowned. Charles was a womanizer, but Catherine failed to give birth to a living heir, despite several pregnancies. She was neglected by her husband, who continued to have children by his mistresses, and he refused to divorce her. Upon Charles' death in 1685, she returned to Portugal, where she died at the age of 67. After her death she was entombed in the Jeronimite Church (Lisbon). In 1914, the body was removed to the pantheon of the royal House of Braganza, in the Church of Saint Vincent of Fora (Lisbon, Portugal). (bio by: VampireRed)

Catherine of Braganza returned to Portugal in March of 1692 and she later acted as Regent for her brother Pedro II. Queen Catherine died on 31 December 1705 in Lisbon and her remains were buried at the Jerónimos Monastery, in Belém, Lisbon.
