Mrs. Sloan Funeral Held
Funeral services for Mrs. Ruth Murphy Sloan were held Wednesday afternoon in Midway Freewill Baptist Church with burial following in Murphy Cemetery.
Officiating ministers were Rev. W. L. Purvis and Rev. Ronald Wallace.
Pallbearers included Melvin Sloan, Ernest Thompson, Jerry Giles, Howard Chance, Larry Sloan and Grady Sloan.
Mrs. Sloan died Monday after a long illness.
She was 96 years of age.
Mrs. Sloan was born in Colquitt County on Sept. 27, 1881, the daughter of the late William Murphy and the late Mrs. Martha Weeks Murphy.
She was a resident of Route 4, Moultrie; and a member of New Hope Free Will Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, D. W. "Wright" Sloan of Route 2, Meigs, Walter Sloan, Gordon Sloan and Rufus Sloan, all of Moultrie; five daughters, Mrs. Ella Mae Giles of Route 4, Moultrie, Mrs. Myrtle Chance of Coolidge, Mrs. Julie Thompson of Route 3, Moultrie, Mrs. Lessie Murphy of Route 6, Moultrie, and Mrs. Ethel Wiggins of Daytona Beach, Fla.; a brother, Charles Murphy of Moultrie; 37 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren; and 33 great-great-grandchildren.
