Vernon L Bittmann Sr., 102, went to be with his Lord and Savior at 2:00 AM January 19, 2012 at Hospice of Wichita Falls, Texas peacefully. Interment will be 2: 00, Monday January 23 in Resthaven Cemetery, Oklahoma City OK.
Vern was born November 24, 1909 on the family homestead at Binger. OK near an Indian village, to Albert Clarence and Pearl (Lisenberry) Bittmann. He loved to tell the stories as a youngster of sneaking down to Indian camp and dancing around the fires with the Indians. At the age of 18 he hitchhiked to Oklahoma City and became a cattle truck driver. He hauled a lot of horses and mules to Fort Sill in the late 20's and 30's. By World War II, he had gone to work for Wilson and Company and later retired from there at the age of 65. After retirement, Vern and his brother Herbert and nephew Jim Nondorf were Kings of Domino Boards.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his loving wife Nina Marie (Swenson) Bittmann, 1 sister Opal Butler, and 1 brother Alvie C. Bittmann.
He is survived by his son Vernon L. Bittmann Jr. and wife Ramona of Wichita Falls, TX, a brother Herbert Bittmann of Shattuck, OK, and a sister Cleo Pate of Wichita, KS. He is also survivedby 2 grandsons, Vernon L. Bittmann III and wife Karen of Grapevine, TX and Mark Kevin Bittmann and wife Cristy of Simpsonville, SC and also 3 Great Granddaughters and 1 Great Grandson and many loving nieces and nephews.
