SNYDER, John William Bentz, 81, former businessman in Dodge and Synder, died Wednesday evening at his home here. He had been ill about eight years. Mr. Bentz had lived in this area since coming to the United States with his parents when he was 3. He was born in Stettin, Germany June 24, 1872. Upon coming to this community he made his home with his parents on a farm in the Ridgeley Twp. Mr. Bentz married Anna Kempf in Fremont Feb. 26, 1896. After their marriage they lived on a farm in Ridgeley Twp. one year before moving to Dodge where Mr. Bentz operated a plumbing and well business. He moved to Snyder in 1903 and operated a similar business here. He retired eight years ago. Mr. Bentz was town Marshall in Snyder for 12 years and had also served on the school board here. Surviving are one daughter, Miss Emma at home; two sons, John Jr. of Snyder and Clarence of Fremont; two grandchildren; four step grandchildren; one brother August of Walthill; and one sister, Mrs. Bert Cook of Norfolk. Preceding him in death were his wife, a daughter, two sisters and three brothers. Funeral services have been set for 1:45 p.m. Saturday at the family home in Snyder and 2 p.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran. The Rev. A.B. Senne will officiate. Pallbearers will be Ernest, Ed, Clarence and Gerald Bentz, and Clyde and Elwyn Negley. Burial will be in the Snyder Cemetery , Humlicek Mortuary of Dodge has charge of arrangements.
