SAN SABA, TEXAS NEWSPAPER OBITUARY:
James A. Smith, 61, of Llano, formerly of San Saba, passed away, Saturday, April 19, 2008 at his home in Llano. He was born July 21, 1946, in San Saba, the son of Alfred Elmo Smith and Rutha Maude Rankin Smith.
On December 2, 1967, James Alfred Smith and Nelda Gay Hightower were married in Lometa, Texas. She preceded him in death May 19, 2000. On January 11, 1966, James enlisted with the United States Air Force and served time during the Vietnam War. James was an insurance adjuster and attended the Church of Christ.
He is survived by two sons: Gary Smith and his wife, Tasha, of San Antonio, TX; and Mike Smith and his wife, Laurie, of Lometa; six grandchildren: Ciarra Lynn Smith, Joel Smith, Josh Smith, Alene Shick, Christopher Snyder and Kendall Smith; two brothers: Richard Smith and his wife, Genie, of Llano, and John Smith of San Saba; three sisters: Peggy Horton and her husband, Ronnie, of Llano; Ann Turner and her husband, Parker, of Llano; and Pat Dawson and her husband, Ralph, of Austin; and several nieces and nephews.
James was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Services will be held Friday, April 25, 2008, at 2:00 at the Howell-Doran Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at the Harmony Ridge Cemetery.
