Daniel M. (Bud) Howe, 57, Carlton, died Sunday in the Cloquet hospital. He was born October 26, 1919 in Brownton, Minnesota, coming to Carlton in 1946 and living here the balance of his life.
He was an estimator for the Ray Riihiluoma Construction Company. He was a World War II veteran, serving with the U.S. Navy at the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor. He was a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors Associating, serving as treasurer, a life member of the Carlton Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2962 and past commander of the Post, serving many years as the color honor guard at funerals, a member of the Cloquet American Legion, Cloquet Knights of Columbus, and St. Francis Catholic Parish where he served on the Parish Council.
He is survived by a daughter, Roseshel Howe, Minneapolis; two sons, Paul L., Duluth, and Robert D., Carlton; two sisters, Mrs. Derle (Hazel) Bradford, Shakopee, and Mrs. Wesley (Rosemarie) Bradford, Sturgeon Lake; his mother, Rose Howe, Carlton, and a grandchild.
The funeral Mass was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the St. Francis Parish Center, Carlton, with Reverend Father Michael Hayes officiating. Interment was at the Hillside Cemetery, Carlton, with full military rites by the Carlton VFW. Vigil prayers were at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the Wefelmeyer Funeral Home, Cloquet. Arrangements were by the Wefelmeyer Funeral Home, Cloquet.
