Born on March 9, 1822, Malinda Montgomery was a daughter of William and Sarah (Gibson) Montgomery. She married Francis A. Scott on Sept. 9, 1839. They were the parents of eight children--Elizabeth, Sarah, Polly, Martha, William, John, James and Eliza. Malinda died on October 5, 1863 and is buried next to her husband in the Montgomery Chapel Cemetery near Lizton.

The 1850 Census shows Melinda Scott (age 28) living in Middle Township (which then included present day Union Township), Hendricks County, Indiana with husband Francis A. (age 33) and children Elizabeth (age 10), Sarah J. (age 8), Mary (age 6), William J. (age 4) and John (age 2). The 1860 Census shows Malinda Scott (age 35) living in Union Township, Hendricks County, Indiana with husband Francis A. (age 45) and children Sarah G. (age 16), Polly (age 15), William T. (age 13), John W. (age 11), Martha J. (age 6), Margaret S. (age 4) and James W. (age 1).
