LAKE PROVIDENCE, LA - Funeral services for Mr. Carl Davis Bonner, Sr., age 84, of Lake Providence will be held at 2PM on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at First United Methodist Church in Lake Providence.
Interment will follow in the Lake Providence City Cemetery.
Family will receive friends on Saturday from 12:30 until time of service at First United Methodist Church in Lake Providence.
Mr. Bonner was born on August 13, 1927 in Waterproof, Louisiana, the youngest child of William Frank and Cassie Smiley Bonner. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Mildred Jones Bonner, his daughter Margaret Bonner Burns and her husband Charles Burns of Dallas, Texas; his son Carl "Buddy" Bonner, Jr., his wife Pam Dunaway Bonner of Littleton, Colorado and their sons Tyler and Russell Bonner of Tyrone, Georgia; his son William B. Bonner, Sr., of Lexington, Kentucky, his son William and daughter-in-law Sherry Bauman Bonner of Greenville, South Carolina; his son Charles Thomson Bonner and his wife Devin Bundick Bonner of Baton Rouge. He also leaves beloved Bonner, Deal and Holt nieces and nephews, and their families.
Mr. Bonner graduated from Lake Providence High School in 1944, and received his B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Louisiana Tech in 1950. While at Louisiana Tech, he was a track letterman and was a member of the first pledge class of the Kappa Alpha Order. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, was in the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers during the Korean Conflict, and was an active member and past Commander of American Legion Post #37.
Mr. Bonner worked as an electrical contractor in Memphis, Tennessee from the 1950s through the 1980s, and in Baton Rouge from the 1980s until his retirement in 1987. He also worked with the Titan Missile in Little Rock, Arkansaas and in Colorado during the 1960s. He was a past president of the Memphis Engineers' Club, a former member of the Board of Directors of the National Electrical Contractors Association in Memphis and Baton Rouge.
In retirement in Lake Providence, Mr. Bonner was active in his church and community. He was a Sunday school teacher and choir member, and served on many church boards. He was a member of the Travelling Tabernacle Community("TCC")chorus. He served on the Board of Directors of the Byerly House and the Regional Board of the Louisiana State Cotton Museum in Lake Providence. He will be remembered for his work with the Christmas trees and the Flags Along the Lake Projects, and his prison ministry in the Parish.
The family deeply appreciates the care, love and support of the many friends and family members, and especially the loving care of the staffs of Dr. Bailey, Amy Hale, PA, and the East Carroll Parish Hospital.
