Daughter of Russell McCoy, and
his second wife Esther Weaver.
Note: Her obituary states
that she was the daughter
of Rev. W. R. McCoy,
the first settler of Buchanan, MI.
Louisa is listed as "Pernice"
in the 1870 census:
as "Pern" on the back of the
photo with her sisters:
and as "Fern" (possibly a misspelling
for "Pern"), in her husband's obituary.
Louisa was married on
Jan. 23, 1866, in Buchanan,
Berrien County Michigan,
to Thomas Jefferson Colvin,
the son of Wilkerson Colvin and
his first wife Perlina Griffin.
Note: Louisa's husband is listed
as "Jefferson Colvin"
in Louisa's obituary.
They were living in Shelby, Oceana
County Michgian in the 1880, 1900,
1910 and 1920 census'.
Thomas Jefferson Colvin and
Louisa had the following children:
1. Minnie Colvin, b. 1869.
2. Rosco Verda Colvin,
b. March, 1874, in MI.
d. about Sept. 20, 1893,
in Oceana County Michigan,
age 19 years, and 6 months.
Buried: Mt. Hope Cemetery
(Lot 259).
3. Austin W. Colvin, b. 1887.
Louisa died in 1936, in Shelby, MI
and she is buried in the
Mount Hope Cemetery, in
Shelby, Oceana County Michigan
(Lot 259).
The following obituary for Louisa
was published in the
"Berrien Springs Journal Era"
newspaper, in Berrien Springs, MI
on Dec. 3, 1936, page one:

Word has been received by relatives
here [in Berrien Springs, MI], of
the death on Saturday of
Mrs. Jefferson Colvin
[Mrs. Louisa ("Pern") Colvin],
at her home in Shelby, Mich.
Mrs. Colvin passed her 90th birthday
on November 21.
She was the daughter of
Rev. W. R. McCoy, who was the
first settler in Buchanan, [MI].
Her husband was a half brother of
the late Sam'l Colvin of Berrien
Springs, and the family resided
here [in Berrien Springs, MI] for
some years previous to their
removal to Shelby, [MI]
35 years ago.
