Death: May 31, 1923

Ss the result of injuries received shortly after one o'clock Thursday morning on the Kittanning-Leechburg road, about a mile north of Leechburg, John Shoop, aged 51 years, of McGrann, Manor township, died in the Kittanning hospital at 6:45 o'clock. Mr. Shoop, accompanied by his sons-in-law, Wilbur Funk and Claire Crytzer, and Jay Stivason, all of McGrann, David Brumbaugh, of Ford City, and Vernon Roudybush, of Kittanning, R.F.D., were returning home from Leechburg in Mr. Roudybush's Chevrolet touring car. Between the Long and Jerry Klingensmith residences, at which point it is said there is a sharp turn in the road, their machine is claimed to have "buckled" suddenly. Just at that moment they are reported to have met another car coming from the opposite direction and a collision resulted. All the occupants of the autos were thrown out and all of the McGrann party suffered injuries. None, however, were seriously hurt excepting Mr. Shoop. He was picked up in an unconscious condition and rushed to the Kittanning hospital, where he died about five hours after the accident without regaining consciousness. The others were taken to Leechburg, where their injuries which consisted of cuts and bruises were attended to and they were then able to return home. Mr. Brumbaugh received a deep hole in his head. The man driving the car towards Leechburg was employed in the Leechburg mills and was on his way to work. His name was not learned. Both machines were badly wrecked, the Roudybush car being reported practically demolished. Mr. Shoop was a well known resident of McGrann. He was born and spent his entire life in that vicinity. His widow and the following children survive: Mrs. Wilbur Funk, Mrs. Clare Crytzer, both of McGrann; Mrs. John Scott, Applewold; Elenore and Addison, at home. He is also survived by three brothers, Harvey Shoop, Oakmont; Luther Shoop, California; Ira Shoop, McGrann. Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the late residence in McGrann in charge of Rev. E. B. Swyer. Interment at Manor Church.
