THE CYNTHIANA DEMOCRAT -- May 12, 1980 -- James Alvin Roe, 81, died in Chatham, Virginia. He was buried in Hillcrest Burial Park, officiated by Rev. L. B. Spradlin.
Formerly of Harrison County, Kentucky, he was born in Trench, Kentucky, a son of the late William Jasper Roe and Mary Susan Horton Roe, and was a graduate of Eastern Teachers College and the University of Kentucky. He served as principal of Sunrise High School in Sunrise, Kentucky, and was a teacher of science and history at Renaker High School in Harrison County and at Fork Union prior to 15 years on the faculty of Hargrave Military Academy. Roe was a member of Chatham Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and Sunday school superintendent.
Surviving are: his wife, Nora Sloas Roe, at home; one daughter, Mrs. David S. Henderson, Vienna; two brothers, Guy Roe, Goshen, Ohio, and Henry Roe, Milford, Ohio; and three grandchildren.
