Lillian Mavis (Franken) Anderson was born February 28, 1923, on the family farm near Astoria, South Dakota, to Matt and Ella (Jaeger) Franken. She attended country school. She was married to Merle D. Thompson until his passing. On December 29, 1962, she married Donald E. Anderson. He died February 8, 1977. Lil lived in Ward, White, and Elkton, and while in Elkton provided child daycare in her home. She later worked at the Cozy Corner Assisted Living in Elkton.

Lil enjoyed being with people in many ways—dancing, attending church, school, and community activities, and going out for supper with family and friends. She was a member of the United Parish and the American Legion Auxiliary, and she served on the Elkton City Council. She was a 26-year cancer survivor.

Survivors include her four children: Mavis (Thomas) Willmott of White, Merlin (Kris) Thompson of Brookings, Robert Thompson and special friend Candi Rochel of Elkton, and James (Trudy) Anderson of Elkton; six grandchildren: Christopher (Kari) and Chadwick Willmott, Derek and Tanya Anderson, and Cody and Carly Jo Thompson; four great-grandchildren: Karissa, Collyn, and Cole Willmott, and Tristin Basham; sister-in-law, Cordellia Franken of Sioux Falls; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her husbands; two brothers, Matt and George; and two sisters, Grace and Lena.
