J. H. DULMADGE, PIONEER DIES AT ADVANCED AGE
Came West in 1881 and First Engaged as Teacher in Winnipeg Schools
Was Valued Employee of Free Press - On School Board Nine Years
Jacob Heber Dulmadge. who was a member of the Winnipeg school board from 1897 to 1900, died early Monday morning after a long period of ill health. Mr. Dulmadge's death took place in his 80th year at the family residence, 97 Borebank street, River Heights.
Born in Brighton, Out., in April, 1848, Mr. Dulmadge was one of the early residents of this city, coming west in 1881. and for a number of years was engaged in teaching school. Retiring from teaching he went into businss and later was for a long period one of the trusted employees of the Free
Press, being in charge of the business office collection department. He retired about 15 years ago and at the time purchased a number of lots on Borebank street, before the development period of River Heights, and there he devoted himself to gardening, taking a great pride in horticultural pursuits. About one year ago he was compelled to give up all activities and has lived retired for several months.
His experience in school teaching served the city to good purpose, and while he was for 10 years a member of the school board, he did much to
develop the educational facilities in the northern part of the city, his seat on the board being for Ward 6. He took a keen interest in the welfare of the
St John's district and did splendid service for the growing children of his day Mr. Dulmadge was also an early day member of McDougall Methodist
church and was also one of the pioneer members of the Masonic order. The family residence was on Burrows avenue and later Selkirk avenue.
Surviving are four daughters, Mrs. David Rodgers, Carman, Man.; Mrs. P. C Harris, Mrs. P. E. H. Luke and Miss Mable, all of Winnipeg. The latter is a
well known member of the city teaching staff and resided with, her father at 97 Borebank street.
One son, Arthur, died suddenly in Edmonton, Alberta, three years ago, while connected with the Canadian National railways service. Mrs. Dulmadge
died in 1905.
The funeral will be held Wednesday afternoon at 4 o'clock from the A. B. Gardiner funeral home and will be private. Burial will take place in the
family plot, Elmwood cemetery.
