Funeral service was held last Friday at the First Methodist Church in Blytheville for Mrs. Mavis Whistle Kelley, wife of Fred Kelley, Mississippi County farmer. Mrs. Kelley died early Wednesday at her home after a brief illness. She was 43.
Mrs. Kelley was born in Dell, Ark., where she attended the public school. After graduating as valedictorian, she attended Chillicothe Business College and Arkansas State College. She was graduated from the University of Arkansas where she was president of Delta Gamma social sorority.
She taught in the Luxora, Wilson and Dell school systems and was a former president of Woman's Society of Christian Service at Dell Methodist Church and at the First Methodist Church in Blytheville. She was also a state officer of WSCS and was president of the Whistle Gin Company in the Whistleville community in Mississippi County, Ark.
Besides her husband, she leaves her mother, Mrs. Clem Whistle, Sr., of Blytheville; two sisters: Mrs. R.G. Edwards of Blytheville and Mrs. David Sloas of Memphis; and a brother, Clem Whistle, Jr., of Blytheville.
Burial was in Elmwood Cemetery with Cobb Funeral Home of Blytheville in charge of arrangements.
