Ernest LeRoy Sackett, 81, of Grants Pass died Monday, March 8, 2010, at his home.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday at Faith Baptist Church, with the Rev. Steve Burman, pastor, officiating. Private interment was at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. Chapel of the Valley – L.B. Hall Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Memorial contributions may be made to Faith Baptist Church, 3405 Williams Highway, Grants Pass, OR 97527.

Ernest was born August 31, 1928 in Spokane, Washington. He attended Eastern Washington State College and Western State and received his bachelor's degree in elementary education from Southern Oregon College in 1960. He took advanced courses in Library Science at Southern Oregon College and San Jose State University. He came to Grants Pass in 1956 from Spokane.

He taught for two years in Idaho, one year in Washington State and one in California before beginning employment with the Grants Pass School District, where he was a teacher for 10 years and a librarian for 16 years.

In 1971 in Grants Pass, he married Esther L. Paulsen, who survives him.

Sackett was the author of eleven books or booklets and in the 1980s was listed in both the national and international" Who's Who" of writers, editors and poets, especially for his "Rhyme with Ease" rhyming dictionary.

After retiring from educational work, he devoted his time to locating and selling old and rare books and to developing a library at Faith Baptist Church. He loved to sing and to travel.

In addition to his wife, Esther, he is survived by a nephew, Dennis Sackett of Orangevale, California.
