William J. "Dub" Livengood, 89, of Warrensburg died Friday, Feb. 5, 2010 at Western Missouri Medical Center after a long illness of C.O.P.D.

Dub was born May 20, 1920, in Knob Noster, the son of Charles E. and Alice (Heidler) Livengood, the fourth child of a family of five.

When Dub was six years old, the family moved from Knob Noster to a farm northwest of Warrensburg. He attended Walden grade school and grew up in the Greendoor neighborhood.

Dub was inducted into the military at Ft. Leavenworth, Kan., in December, 1943 and later transferred to Camp Kohler, Calif., for basic and special Signal Corp training. Later that year he was sent to Ft. Monmouth, N.J. and to Ft. Dix, N.J., for overseas shipment, where they spent 13 days in convoy. Dub spent 29 months in World War II with 17 months spent overseas as a sergeant in the Signal Corp as a high-speed radio operator. He was awarded two battle stars. The last six months of his stay in Europe, he worked for the State Department at the American Embassy in Bucharest, Romania until his discharge in May, 1946.
