Obituary from the St. Bonifacius Star newspaper dated Friday, October 3, 1913:

Mrs. August Kickhafer died Sunday evening at her home near Mound after a lingering and painful illness. Deceased was born in the town of Minnetrista near St. Bonifacius on August 27, 1856. She was a daughter of Charles Bruhn, one of the pioneer settlers of these parts. In June 1875, she was united in marriage to August Kickhafer and settled with her husband near Mound, where the family has since lived. Eleven children were born to them, five sons and six daughters, one daughter preceding the mother to the grave thirteen years ago. Mrs. Kickhafer leaves her husband, ten children, twelve grandchildren, six brothers, three sisters and a hosts of friends to mourn her death.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday at 2 o'clock from the Baptist church of this place, with interment in the Baptist cemetery. The pall bearers were Messrs. Herman Maass, Fred Beise, Charles Rehbein, John Rehbein, Albert Ohde and Frank Luedtke.

The abundant and beautiful floral tribute by the children and friends, and the large attendance at the service were expression of the esteem in which she was held, and of the sympathy which is felt for the bereaved family.

The grief stricken family left to mourn is Mr. Kickhafer, and daughters, Ida, Mamie, Sophie, Mrs. Kelley and Mrs. Strong. The sons are, Willie, Herman, Otto, Frank and George. She leaves, also, six brothers and three sisters, who are Louis Bruhn, of Tennessee, Charley, Willie, Otto and Albert Bruhn of this place, August Bruhn from Frazee, Mrs. Ben Luchau of Moorehead, Mrs. Herman Krenz and Mrs. Herman Lehmann, of Frazee.
