Rudy passed away Monday morning, Jan. 2, 2012, at his home in Welcome.

Rudolph "Rudy" Henry Bicknase was born Oct. 8, 1931, on the family farm in Fraser Township, Martin County, Minn., the son of Rudolph and Dora (Nassen) Bicknase. As a young boy, Rudy attended country school in Fraser Township and following his education, helped his father on the family farm.

As a young man, Rudy enlisted in the U.S. Army, where he served his country from March 15, 1954, to March 14, 1956. Upon receiving his honorable discharge, Rudy returned home to Minnesota, where he was united in marriage to Esther Isder at the Lutheran Church in Dolliver, Iowa. Together, the couple made their home in Fairmont and raised five children:?Robert, Debra, Danny, Randy and Sherri.

Rudy worked 31 years for 3M in maintenance, retiring in 1991. He had a knack for fixing things and putting things together. Rudy once ordered an RCA television kit and put together a color TV for his family. His fascination with electronics continued as he offered his assistance as a part-time TV repairman and, in his later years, found joy with working on computers. He was a very intelligent person who loved to figure out the way things worked. Rudy was a thinker and studied everything very closely and put a lot of thought into everything from purchasing a special item to offering advice to his children.

In his spare time, Rudy enjoyed spending time outdoors; fishing, riding snowmobile, riding motorcycles, and flying his remote control airplanes. He loved spending time with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and looked forward to special visits from "Missy," his son Danny's dog.

Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Esther Bicknase of Welcome, Minn.; children, Robert Bicknase and his wife, Teresa of Eagle Lake, Minn., Debra Magee and her husband, Steve of South Beloit, Ill., Danny Bicknase and special friend, Maria Croy of Fairmont, Minn., Randy Bicknase and his wife, Laura of Owatonna, Minn., and Sherri Bicknase of Welcome, Minn.; grandchildren, Megan Magee, Darcy Dorman and her husband, Jeremy, Diana Bicknase, Desiree Schaeffer and her husband, Luke, Denise Bicknase, Sara Bicknase, Renee Bicknase, Heidi Gimberline and her husband, Adam, Heather Kuenle, and Serena Jewison; great-grandchildren, Nolan Dorman, Neil Dorman, Billy Gimberline, Carter Gimberline and Connor Foley; one brother, Marvin Bicknase and his wife, Elnora of Fairmont, Minn.; sisters-in-law, Eunice Voigt and Jenny McLoughlin; brother-in-law, Johnny Isder; as well as many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
